"As this series developed, I incorporated vintage photographs that I painted on top of. I thought about who these people were and how they were connected. Little stories emerged. They seemed like they were all part of a society or cohort. The way that I layered the paint, the mixed media pieces remind me a little of aura photography. They feel like psychic portraiture, where I was attempting to capture what can’t be seen with the eyes alone. I liked the idea that all of them had particular gifts or talents and this is what brought them together.”
